Only Helena Adler (“The Infanta Leads Her Head to the Left”), born in Salzburg in 1983, has a chance of doing twice that and winning the German and Austrian Book Prize. Otherwise, there is no overlap between the patriotic price and the German model, which also allows the Austrians.
The long list with ten titles, announced on Thursday by the Austrian Main Book Trade Association, is dominated by the Salzburger Verlag Jung & Jung with three nominations.

Michael Stavarič – Foreign light (Chandelier)
Cornelia travnicek – Feenstaub (Picus)
Ilija Trojanow – Double via (S. Fischer)
The shortlist of five tracks will be announced on October 8.
The shortlist of finalists for the debut award includes Leander Fischer’s “Die Forelle”, Gunther Neumann’s “Above Everything and Nothing” and Mercedes Spannagel’s debut “Das Palais muss brennen,” which will be released next week.
The winners will be announced on the evening of November 9 as part of the “Buch Wien”. The Austrian Book Prize, which is awarded for the fifth time, is endowed with 20,000 euros, the debut prize with 10,000 euros; the finalists who have not had the opportunity will receive 2,500 euros each.
