The bishop of the German Curia, Josef Clemens, has been appointed administrator of the Klosterneuburg monastery by the Vatican. On Saturday, Walter Hanzmann, spokesman for the monastery, confirmed a corresponding advance notice from the news magazine “profil”. However, more details are not yet clear, it was emphasized. The 73-year supervisory commission took place after an apostolic visitation at the Augustinian monastery.
According to “profil”, the reason for this visit was, among other things, badly processed abuse cases. In Rome, the opinion had been reached that “an outsider should draw his pen from the crisis.”
“We don’t know what his job is, when he will come and how long he will stay,” Hanzmann said Saturday at the APA of Clemens. The pen received the message of the appointment of the German as administrator at the end of October.
At the Vatican, Clemens had been private secretary to the Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith for 19 years. His name was Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger and he was elected Pope Benedict XVI in April 2005. As a cardinal, Ratzinger donated his compatriot to his compatriot in January 2004 in St. Peter’s Basilica.
