Biden Campaigns for Democrats Ahead of Georgia’s Runoff Election

A day before the decisive second round of the elections for two seats in the United States Senate in the state of Georgia, the president-elect of the United States, Joe Biden, campaigned strongly in favor of the two Democratic candidates on Monday. The outcome of the two second round elections will determine whether Republicans can defend their majority in the Senate or whether Biden’s Democrats will dominate the other House of Representatives in Washington in the future.

Speaking about votes, Biden said during a performance with candidates Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock in Atlanta: “Tomorrow may be a new day for Atlanta, Georgia and the United States. Of Ossoff and Warnock, he said, “They are principled, they are qualified. He’s honorable, he means what he says.” Biden accused two Republican rulers, David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler, of believing their allegiance belongs to outgoing President Donald Trump, not to Georgia and the United States Constitution.

Biden also accused Trump of not supporting the US states in the vaccination campaign against Covid-19. “The president spends more time whining and complaining than worrying about the problem. I don’t know why he still wants the job if he doesn’t want to do the job. ” Trump continues to refuse to acknowledge Biden’s victory in the November 3 presidential election. The Republican speaks of massive electoral fraud of which there is no evidence.

Trump tried to overturn Biden’s narrow victory in Georgia in Saturday’s presidential election. In a phone call, Trump had bluntly asked Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, also a Republican, responsible for the Georgia election, to “recalculate” the result. Southern state officials again dismissed the allegations of alleged electoral fraud on Monday as “demonstrably false.”

“I just want to find 11,780 votes … because we have won the state,” Trump said, according to a recording of the conversation with Raffensperger, published by the US media. After two recounts, Biden is 11,779 votes ahead of Trump. Biden scoffed Monday about the three votes: “We’ve won three times here.” He added that politicians in the United States cannot take power, it is given by the people.

The long-awaited election in Georgia could be a long time coming. “It may take several days,” said a spokesman for Raffensperger, who was responsible for the vote. As in the November presidential election, postal ballots cast on Election Day in particular could cause a delay. Counting can only start at 7pm (local time; 1am Wednesday CET). Additionally, a candidate can force a recount if the winner is 0.5 percent or less of the total votes. Polls see the two candidates for the two Senate seats practically on par.
