reThe fire brigade fought for hours against a fire at Berlin’s Onkel Toms Hütte metro station on Monday night. Four people were injured in the fire, one of them seriously. “We are still there,” a spokesman said in the morning. The blaze had spread to the roof of the metro station in Zehlendorf and, according to the fire department, was controlled overnight.

There were about 120 firefighters on duty, in the morning there were still 15. The fire swept through the row of tents. The cause of the fire and the amount of damage were not yet clear. The seriously injured man was a man from a store, taken to a clinic with burns. The U3 subway line between Breitenbachplatz and Krumme Lanke was interrupted due to the fire service. According to the BVG, a replacement bus service was installed.

“We have to laboriously create a lot of openings in the roof for extinguishing work,” a fire department spokesman said shortly before midnight Sunday. Shortly after, the fire department announced on Twitter: “The fire is under control.” The three slightly injured had smoke inhalation, one was taken to a hospital for it.

The fire first broke out in a store in the subway station and then spread. During the night it was already clear that at least three stores were affected by the flames. Residents were warned in a nearby residential area. Some have left their homes. “There’s a lot of smoke nuisance here,” the fire department spokesman said at the scene.

A photo from the fire department showed tall flames coming from a roof. “Our drone takes pictures with the thermal imaging camera in the areas we can no longer enter,” the forces said on Twitter after the fire was controlled. The openings in the ceiling were created with special saws. According to the fire department, the THW was also in action.
