Belgium to lift crown-related travel warning for Vorarlberg this Wednesday afternoon at 4pm. Finance Minister Gernot Blümel (ÖVP) announced this to journalists after the Council of Ministers on Wednesday. The reason is the decrease in the number of infections in Vorarlberg. This shows that “it makes sense to take action,” Blümel emphasized. Currently, the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in seven days in Vorarlberg is 71.
By the end of September, Belgium had also put Vorarlberg and Tirol on the red list after Vienna. Consequently, if you stay in these areas within the last 14 days directly after entering Belgium, a Belgian PCR test and a 14-day quarantine are mandatory.
Virtual government meeting
The government meeting on Wednesday morning was partly virtual. Earlier in the week, a close confidant of Chancellor Sebastian Kurz (ÖVP) tested positive for Corona. As a result, all members of the government tested negative, but to be sure, the Cabinet was held on Wednesday at least partially by video. At the scene, however, were Vice Chancellor Werner Kogler (Greens), Finance Minister Blümel, Agriculture Minister Elisabeth Köstinger (ÖVP) and Secretary of State for Culture Andrea Mayer (Greens); they had to go in front of the journalists because the usual press lobby took place anyway.
