It will be a long winter in Austria this week! In addition to temperatures, the snow line in the country continues to fall. The view >>>
An intermediate high at the beginning of the week ensures calm weather with plenty of sun in the mountains. On Tuesday, however, the occlusion of a low over northern Germany spread to the west of the country and brought some snow to the lower elevations, the east and south are initially favored by the weather. In the second half of the week, the southern Italian lows initially cause precipitation in the form of snow or, towards the weekend, increasingly in the form of rain.
the Monday it starts cloudy in the northeast and locally some drops or flakes fall here in the morning hours. In the west of the northern and southern Alps, there is still a lot of fog in the valleys, but the fog and clouds usually loosen a bit during the day. The sun dominates the mountains from Vorarlberg to western Upper Styria.
A.M Tuesday Clouds dominate the west and north and in Vorarlberg it starts to snow in the morning hours. During the course of the day, the snowfall also extends to Tyrol, otherwise it often remains dry except for a few flakes. Especially in the Arlberg area and in the Bregenzerwald area, it can snow temporarily more heavily, with the snowfall limit in the extreme west temporarily rising to around 600 meters. On the contrary, it remains dry in the south and east.
“Up to 2 meters of fresh snow”
the Wednesday It starts off with dense clouds and especially from Bregenzerwald to Salzkammergut some flakes still fall here and there. During the day it slackens, especially in the east and northeast of the country, and the sun can also be seen from time to time in the far west. In the south, on the other hand, the clouds are condensing more and more and, depending on the current situation, snowfall begins in the extreme south towards sunset. On Thursday night it slowly spreads north.
But how much snow can you expect in Austria this week? “The range extends from a few centimeters to 2 meters of fresh snow (in the mountains with surprises, including some valleys),” reports Ö3 meteorologist Sigi Fink on Facebook.
