A week after Alexander Borodjuk’s surprising resignation, second-division soccer club SV Horn introduced the new head coach on Thursday. The experienced Croatian Davor Mladina is now on the supervisory bench.
After the great turmoil of the summer with numerous ins and outs, Horner had big plans with Russian Borodjuk. Last week, however, he said goodbye to Waldviertel after just two championship games because he had an attractive offer to coach a national team, more on this in the second division: Coach change at SV Horn (noe.ORF.at ; 23.9.20).
The Horner club leaders were forced to act again and have now found what they are looking for in Croatia. Davor Mladina works as a coach in Austria for the first time after several coaching positions in Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. As a player he was already active from 1990 to 1992, among others at Wolfsberger AC and FC Voest Linz.
Promotion Specialist
Mladina celebrated in his coaching career, among others, his promotion to the Croatian top league with the clubs HNK Vukovar, NK Marsonia, HNK Cibalia and NK Hrvatski Dragovoljac. With HNK Orasje he won the Bosnian Cup competition in 2006. His last coaching position was HNK Cibalia Vinkovci in the Croatian second division. Now the 60-year-old is eager to participate in Austria’s second highest league. “I am happy to return to Austria after almost 30 years and I look forward to achieving our common goals with the association.”
Horn CEO Andreas Zinkel is convinced that this time he has found a long-term solution at Horner Betreuerbank: “With Davor Mladina we have hired a coach who has ties to Austria and who has many years of experience in sports. Top leagues in Croatia and Bosnia. His positive and refreshing attitude convinced us, as well as his professional qualities, and we look forward to a good and successful cooperation ”. Mladina will celebrate his debut as a French horn coach on Friday in the home game against Juniors Upper Austria (6.30 pm).
Short guest performance for Sporn
While the new coach will once again see his former protégés Ivor Horvat and Luka Bilobrk in Horn, from now on there will no longer be another player in the Waldviertel. Jon Sporn will leave the club after a few weeks. The Slovenian moves to his hometown to current champion NK Celje. Sporn only made it to Waldviertel in the summer and was used in three of Horner’s four previous second division games. With one win, one draw and two losses, Horner is currently in 11th place on the table.
