Schönbrunn’s two foster parents are doing their jobs very well, the broadcast said. “When we carefully placed the chick in their nest, they immediately accepted it. They take turns feeding and warming it. A camera is installed over the nest so that we can observe the young,” said zoo keeper Regina Riegler.

However, the little bearded vulture does not stay in Schönbrunn forever, but must be reintroduced into the wild. Until then, however, it still has a lot to grow. The next step is to take blood samples to determine the sex of the chick. Then two or three birds are selected from the entire breeding network that match in terms of age, DNA, and gender.
Before the birds even fled, they are taken to a common nest in the wild. They feed through slides without contact with people until they are independent. In this way, they prepare step by step for a life in nature.
