More than 400 ships got stuck due to the blockade of the “Ever Given”.
After the rescue of the giant container “Ever Given”, which was damaged in the Suez Canal, the backwater of one of the most important waterways in the world has been completely dissolved. The Egypt Canal Authority (SCA) announced on Saturday. “All the ships waiting since the container ship ‘Ever Given’ was stranded crossed the channel,” it said in a statement. Due to the gigantic container that ran aground in the Suez Canal, more than 400 ships were previously trapped there.
The “Ever Given” ran aground in a sandstorm on Tuesday of last week. The 400-meter-long, more than 220,000-ton ship was trapped in the narrow channel and blocked the waterway between the Red Sea and the Mediterranean.
It was only on Monday of this week that the tugboats involved in the rescue operation managed to uncover the freighter. Hours later, the Suez Canal was also reopened to shipping. At this time, however, more than 400 ships were already stuck in front of the waterway.
