Avalanche washed away 40-year-olds 70 meters away in Schneeberg

On Sunday afternoon, a mountaineer from Vienna was swept away by an avalanche of about 70 meters on the Schneeberg in Lower Austria. According to the mountain rescue service, the accident occurred despite the low alert level 1. The rescue operation was difficult due to the storm with peaks of up to 100 km / h.

According to the helpers, a small slab of snow came loose in the Roten-Schütt-Flank and caught a 40-year-old man traveling with a partner (31). The well-equipped and trained amateur athlete sustained injuries to the entire body with suspected serious pelvic injury. The youngest climber raised the alarm.

Mountain rescuers and alpine police went up to the crash site on foot. The victim was taken to the valley on a mountain stretcher and from there to the hospital.
