Avalanche expert Mair is concerned about the snow that will fall until today, Sunday night: “Since Saturday, 500 homes in East Tyrol have lost power. We expect more to arrive by Sunday night. ”
The first avalanches have already buried streams, as Mair says. Early Saturday night an avalanche struck Prägraten am Großvenediger in East Tyrol, damaging four houses and one vehicle. According to the police, no one was injured.
Previously, the Prägraten community operations administration had asked a total of 29 people to leave their homes and move their stay from the western district to the east of Bobojach.
The evacuation of about 90 more people followed in the districts of Bichl, Wallhorn and north of the town center. The Prägraten fire brigade, mountain rescue services, community workers and the Lienz Alpine police were on duty.
Damaged power lines
There were also problems with the energy supply: “Some hydroelectric plants no longer receive water and therefore cannot supply electricity. Furthermore, avalanches damage power towers or trees fall on power lines ”. According to Mair, a meteorologist by the way, the Ötztal, Stubai and Zillertal Alps could be particularly affected.
