Wiener Austria entered the round of 16 of the ÖFB Cup on Friday night. Coach Peter Stöger’s team deservedly won 3-1 in the derby against the regional division Wiener Sportclub. For the two remaining Bundesliga clubs, however, the end came. Admira missed 3: 4 on penalties against Kapfenberg and in a home game against a second division team like WSG Tirol, which lost 1-0 to the FAC in Wattens.

Austria Klagenfurt lived up to their favorite role in a duel between two second division teams at SV Lafnitz at 4-2. However, there was a surprise in Horn, where host SV lost 3-0 against Wienerliga representative fourth class ASK Elektra. On Saturday, Red Bull Salzburg (at St. Pölten), Rapid (at Wiener Neustadt) and LASK (against Wörgl) are three of the four European Cup holders. WAC’s match against Ried will not continue until Sunday.

After the international break against their third-class rivals in Vienna, which was hit by corona cases, the Austrian team did not let anything burn despite extremely difficult space conditions. Two minutes after Patrick Wimmer hit the crossbar, the rod and again the crossbar in one action, Christoph Monschein in Dornbach gave a redeeming penalty with a penalty (39th).

Endpoint for hosts

At the restart, the hosts scored the second goal, a return by Luka Gusic to Pichler’s flank did not jump for a lacquer and the ball slipped between the legs of the confused goalkeeper Florian Prögelhof and entered the goal (56th). After a penalty converted by Manprit Sarkaria (73rd), who had taken Monschein, everything was clear. The final point, however, was reserved for the locals: Ivan Andrejevic’s shot from 20 meters was deflected at his own goal by Maximilian Sax (89th).

The Admirans were saved at the BSFZ Arena against KSV thanks to a goal from double scorer Roman Kerschbaum (26th, 120th) shortly before the end of extra time, but they had the worst finish there. KSV goalkeeper Franz Stolz, who saved penalties from rookie Joseph Ganda, Marco Hausjell and Milos Spasic, became the winner of the match. In the end, Admira didn’t help at all that Andreas Leitner was able to excel in the takes of Oliver Bacher and Dino Musija.

Michael Lang used the decisive penalty. Previously, Elvedin Heric (47th / corner kick) and Dino Musija (118th / free kick) had hit from inactive balls during the game. For the Südstädter, a cup misery continued, they failed for the fourth time in a row before the round of 16.

WSG Tirol disappointed

WSG Tirol returned to their own Gernot Langes stadium with no luck. The FAC managed to surprise almost 500 spectators thanks to an own goal by Renny Smith from a corner kick in the 41st minute. The Bundesliga club’s clear superiority was unrewarded. This was the first time the Viennese came off the field as victors at Wattens, having scored just one point from five second division games. For the WSG it was the second consecutive competitive loss after 0: 2 at home against Austria in the championship.

“A typical cup fight. We got into the game well, we dominated the first 30 minutes. We lost the game in the last quarter of an hour. The second half was a game on an inclined plane. There were quite a few opportunities. Very bitter,” he analyzed Thomas Silberberger, WSG coach disappointed. “We lost the final consequence in the end,” added offensive player Florian Rieder.

The Klagenfurt team laid the foundations for victory in Lafnitz thanks to three goals in the first 22 minutes. “That was a really strong performance from my team, especially in the first half. We defended constantly and also played well forward. After the break, we got into trouble,” Klagenfurt coach Robert Micheu said. For Lafnitz there are already chances of a rematch in the League on Friday. (apa)
