The federal government is reportedly planning strict entry restrictions for the Christmas holidays.
All travelers arriving in Austria from countries with an incidence in 7 days greater than 100 (per 100,000 inhabitants) have to be quarantined for ten days. Officials confirmed corresponding reports from the media to the APA. All neighboring states would be affected. The measure will take effect before Christmas and will last until at least January 10.
Free trials are possible after five days
Those affected should be able to release themselves from quarantine after at least five days. It is not yet clear exactly when the measure will take effect. According to the newspaper “Kronen Zeitung”, there should be strict entry controls at the borders and at airports. The measure is especially aimed at tourists traveling from Austria to the current risk areas in the Balkans or Turkey. The long duration of the measure is justified by the Orthodox holiday of Christmas on January 7. The measure aims to prevent a third wave of infections or the collapse of the health system.
No excuse at work
The quarantine period for returnees on vacation from Covid areas at work should not be used as an excuse, the “messenger” reported. The newspaper referred in this regard to data from the Interior Ministry, according to which Turkey had more than 31,000 new infections on November 30 and Serbia more than 6,000; the last 7-day incidence in Serbia was 711.
