Austria Klagenfurt just won the main game of the 16th round in the 2nd division. Carinthians beat Blau-Weiß Linz 1-0 away. Markus Pink scored the golden goal with a header (25th). While the Linzers are losing points for the first time in the new year, promotion candidate Klagenfurt is celebrating the first win in a competitive game in the new year.
Blau-Weiß Linz starts with ambition, but Klagenfurt takes the lead
The home team started the game with great ambition and immediately put pressure on Carinthians. At first, the Blue and Whites mainly attracted attention in standard situations. Turgay Gemicibasi dangerously took three corners into the penalty area, but a goal was not seen. Even with a Gemicibasi free kick, Klagenfurt’s defense was safe. In addition, things were quite rustic at the Hofmann Personal Stadium: in the early stages, both teams did not give anything in the duels. Here and there there was much harshness to marvel at.
In the 16th minute, Linz collapsed to the left even stronger: the conspicuous Turgay Gemicibasi crossed into the penalty area, where Fabian Schubert missed. The first dangerous action by the guests led to the first goal of the game: Patrick Greil rounded a corner into the penalty area, where Markus Pink scrambled up and headed precisely to the upper right corner – 0: 1 (25th). Shortly after, Straudi retreated from the corner, but his shot rushed just above (27th).
Meanwhile, the guests were much better in the game than in the initial phase. The people of Klagenfurt always managed to blend dangerously into the danger zone for the people of Linz. Shortly before the break, it was Upper Austria who were almost able to cheer for the tie: Gemicibasi returned an inactive ball to the penalty area, where Wimmer headed to Kreuzeck’s left, but Herbert Paul was able to clear the line in dire need ( 45 + 2). Shortly before, Schubert had failed as a freelancer because of Moser.
Klagenfurt keeps a small advantage in time
Peter Pacult’s protégés found their first chance in the second half: Kosmas Gkezos headed at point-blank range after a free throw, but missed Schmid (49th). A little later, the Linz goalkeeper had to grab two more times. The initial phase of the second part clearly belonged to the guests from Carinthia.
Linz now had trouble developing the game in a controlled way, as the Carinthians were much more aggressive than in the first half. In terms of opportunities, however, very little happened on the field. The blue and white could hardly stand up to the well-organized guests. Austria Klagenfurt played calmly and quietly with the lead behind them.
In the 76th minute, Linz found a great opportunity: Schubert refueling down the right wing and hitting the hide into the penalty area, where Felix Strauss shot over her from a few meters. In the finals, the locals picked up the pace again, but the Klagenfurters built up a small lead over time.
