For Austria Klagenfurt and Wacker Innsbruck there were setbacks in Friday’s promotion race in the 12th round of the 2nd division. The Carinthians lost an exciting game at Juniors Upper Austria with 1: 2 and were only able to win two of their most recent seven games. For the Tyrolese, a series of five undefeated matches, including four victories, ended with a 3-0 loss at GAK, which also topped Wacker on the table.
The fourth Grazers, like the third Klagenfurt, have 20 points, the Tyrolese have one point less than the sixth. Due to the slippage of the two great contenders for promotion, second-placed SV Lafnitz can extend his pole position in the fight for the only entry to the upper house on Sunday (10.30 am) with a home win against Blau-Weiß Linz to eight points. The Linzers are tied on points with Innsbruck fifth. Second place is currently decisive for the promotion, as Leader FC Liefering is not eligible for the promotion.
The Upper Austrian Juniors had better moments before the break. Fabian Benko (25th) safely converted a penalty and Thomas Sabitzer (32nd) increased seven minutes later with a header from an ideal cross to 2-0. Former Bundesliga striker Markus Pink (39th) was also able to cut quickly with his head, but nothing else was possible for the guests. In the end, Klagenfurt coach Robert Micheu (86th) was first sentenced to the stands for criticism with the traffic light card and then Simon Straudi (91st) was excluded for stealing goals.
The LASK farm team finished a three-game losing streak with their third win of the season and scored big points in the relegation battle. That was there for Amstetten too thanks to a 3-2 home win against Austria Lustenau and for Kapfenberg. Styrians prevailed 3-0 at the bottom of Rapid II.
Wacker played in Graz in the first half without incident and without offensive power. Even after the reboot, the guest storm was just a “fan” and generally they only bonded a little. So the success of the Styrians at home was no surprise. Slobodan Mihajlovic became the winner of the match. The 23-year-old midfielder hit a corner kick from outside the penalty area (63rd) and subsequently acted as the perfect assistant for the remaining goals from Martin Harrer (77th) and Petar Zubak (90th). The GAK were able to celebrate for the sixth time this season, the 0: 2 at Horn being forgotten.
