Austria faces a second lockdown

The hard “lock” will likely follow the soft one. In view of the unchanged increase in crown numbers, the retail will likely have to close after the catering business. It is quite possible that schools will also convert to learning at home and that only emergency care is available in kindergartens. All of this should apply until shortly before December 8. The measures will be announced on Saturday afternoon by the usual quartet of Chancellor and Minister of Health.

The “lock” should be similar to that of the spring. Because the exit restrictions already in force at night will be extended to the whole day. This means that you can only leave the house if there is a good reason to do so, such as going to work, visiting family, going for a walk or shopping. Of course, this will also be limited to grocery stores, pharmacies, drugstores, and tobacconists. Banks and post offices are also open. Another breach threatens personal service providers, for example beauticians.

The presentation scenario chosen by the government seems that at noon the managing director of Health Austria Herwig Ostermann and the president of the Austrian Society of Anesthesia, Resuscitation and Intensive Medicine Klaus Markstaller report on the threatening situation in Austrian hospitals. Starting at 4.30 pm, things will get serious when Chancellor Sebastian Kurz (ÖVP), Vice Chancellor Werner Kogler, Health Minister Rudolf Anschober (both Greens) and Interior Minister Karl Nehammer (ÖVP) present the new ” Lockdown “. Finally, in the early afternoon, Ministers Gernot Blümel (finance), Heinz Faßmann (education) and Christine Aschbacher (work / all ÖVP) will go into detail. Among other things, there will be compensation for trade, which should be limited to 40 percent of the loss on sales.
