Former coach Christian Ilzer returns to favorites with Sturm Graz on Saturday.
Vienna It’s a reunion, but the joy will be limited when Christian Ilzer returns to the Generali Arena on Saturday as Sturm Graz manager. The 43-year-old Styrian stayed out of the Violets for exactly one season. Often times the game seemed confusing, the best professionals weren’t ready; When Ilzer got the call from home, he shouldn’t have hesitated for a second before moving to Graz.
Of course, Ilzer wants to give “little thought” to this game. It is primarily a championship game. “We are in good shape, we are confident and we want to continue riding the wave of success.” That Austria is still on a downward spiral, the tide has not really turned under Peter Stöger’s leadership and the club is in danger for the second time in a row about missing the championship round, Ilzer did not comment. The Styrians defend fourth place and with a game less than five points they are ahead of Austria, eighth. He knows the Viennese team very well, which has hardly changed in terms of personnel, “with their strengths and weaknesses.” And the cooperation with Sporting Director Stöger? “Of course there was one day or another that we disagreed. But we ended the contractual relationship very cleanly in the summer. ” For his part, there was a point behind the Austria chapter. (fin)
