A goal from Alessandro Schöpf decided the Nations League match in Ploisti in favor of ÖFB-Elf.

After the success away from home in Northern Ireland, the Austrian team competed today against Romania in Ploisti. Franco Foda only changed his starting eleven in one position, instead of Reinhold Ranftl, Alessandro Schöpf was able to play from the beginning.

The ÖFB team had a difficult time getting into the game in the first half, especially at the beginning. However, Schlager found a good opportunity in the 13th minute. But then Gregoritsch had the best chance to take the lead, the Augsburg Legionnaire’s shot jumped off the crossbar but ahead of the line and back onto the field (21st).

Towards the end of the first half, however, the playing errors increased again, so the Romanians had two good chances, which, however, should not lead to a goal. This was the case with the goalless draw at the box office.

The first few minutes after the restart were hectic. Initially, Baumgartlinger came to an end after interacting with Lainer, but this was too harmless. On the other side, the ball sank into the net, but the hit was denied by an offside position of alleged striker Alibec.

In return, Baumgartner lost the advantage to the red-white-red team by just inches after a pass from Lainer. Then a few minutes passed until the next opportunity, again it was Baumgartner who narrowly missed. Again the pass came from Lainer, Baumgartner entered the center to the shot and this was directed by the goalkeeper Tatarusanu but still on the crossbar.

Schöpf makes the decision

A quarter of an hour before the end, the time had finally come. This time an attack ran down the left, Alaba played in favor of Baumgartner, who got ahead of Schöpf, who completed the far corner with the right.

In the end, he was left with the narrow but deserved 1-0, so the rematch for the unnecessary 3-2 home loss in Klagenfurt was a success. Since Norway also won 1-0 against Northern Ireland, the ÖFB team and Haaland & Co. remain at the top of the table with equal points. This means that Franco Foda’s protégés still have promotion to Nations League A in their own hands. With two home games against Northern Ireland and Norway, Nations League B Group 1 will conclude in November.
