Despite a crash course in austerity, AUA is losing between one and two million euros a day, as AUA chief Alexis von Hoensbroech told the “Austria Presse Agentur”. They are at least 40 million euros per month. Although the traditional red-white-red aviator’s workforce has relatively secure jobs thanks to short-term work, the reduced salary is no longer enough for many employees to survive.

As the news magazine “News” reports, more and more AUA employees (would have to) look for a second job. Flight attendants in particular are severely affected. You lose 20 percent due to short-term work and because you don’t fly, variable salary components that represent up to 20 percent of your total earnings are eliminated. This results in losses of up to 40 percent.
