Dominic Thiem loses his last group match at the ATP Finals in London against Russian Andrey Rublev on Thursday with 2: 6, 5: 7.
With the third consecutive win over Thiem, Rublev takes a 3-2 head-to-head lead. Three weeks ago, the 23-year-old Muscovite won the Erste Bank Open in Vienna against the ÖTV star, who secured his ticket to the semi-finals in London and won the group on Tuesday by defeating Rafael Nadal.
For London rookie Rublev it was his first ATP Finals victory, even before the match it was clear that he could no longer make the jump to the semi-finals.
The second place in the semifinals together with Thiem will be at night (starting at 9pm on the LIVE ticker) Nadal and defending champion Stefanos Tsitsipas between them.
After this loss, it is clear that Thiem can no longer surpass Nadal in the ATP rankings, even with a victory in the tournament.
To do this he would have had to become champion without defeat, and Nadal would have to lose Thursday night’s game against Tsitsipas. Thiem awarded another 200 ATP counters and a further US $ 153,000. He also had to postpone his 300th win on the ATP circuit.
