Just a few months before the attack in Vienna, the 20-year-old assassin invited like-minded people from Germany and Switzerland to a jihadist meeting in the federal capital. Apparently, the meeting was under the observation of the BVT.

The Viennese attacker apparently held a jihadist meeting with like-minded people from Germany and Switzerland in Vienna last summer.

The two Swiss from the canton of Zurich, aged 18 and 24, were arrested after the attack in Vienna. In Germany, after the terrorist attack in Vienna, the house of five young people was searched, two of them were those who were in Vienna.

At the request of the APA, the Interior Ministry confirmed that the German and Swiss jihadists were in Vienna at the same time, immediately before the trip to Slovakia, which took place on July 21. According to information from Germany, the meeting was observed by the BVT.

Federal prosecutor takes over the case of detainees in Switzerland

In Switzerland, the Federal Prosecutor’s Office (BA) will take over the proceedings against the two Winterthur men who were arrested in connection with the attack in Vienna next week. Only “time issues” and specific coordination should be clarified. The BA announced on Sunday that the BA will “implement the transfer of the case” with the district attorney of the canton of Zurich. She confirmed a report in the newspaper “Sonntagsblick”.

The 18- and 24-year-olds are already involved in two ongoing criminal proceedings for terrorism by the BA. The older of the two detainees is the accused in one of these processes. The minor is also a suspect in the Winterthur juvenile attorney proceedings.

Islamists made headlines in Winterthur

Islamists have repeatedly made headlines in Winterthur. The Imam of the An’Nur Mosque was convicted and deported to Somalia for calling for the murder of non-practicing Muslims. The mosque was closed. Several Islamists, later convicted, entered and left the house of prayer.

In September, the self-proclaimed “Emir of Winterthur” was sentenced by the Federal Criminal Court to 50 months in prison. He had recruited jihadist travelers from German-speaking Switzerland. He had previously been to Syria in 2013.
