Integration Minister Susanne Raab on the breakdown of parallel societies, the city of Vienna turning a blind eye and the ÖVP’s refusal to take children from Moria. The German classes would have passed the first test.
The ÖVP is famous for its message control. With your narrator of “Little Italy”, with whom you wanted to draw attention to the problems of parallel societies, in the end you gave a sanction to those who do not want to admit it: the subject was then simply referred to the closest pizzeria disappeared.
Susanne Raab: If you ridicule that, then you just didn’t understand the issues surrounding parallel societies. What it’s about: We want a society where people with and without a migrant background come together and live together. And create non-segregated environments in which German is not spoken, where there is no contact with the majority population. And these approaches already exist in Austria: there are neighborhoods where there is no contact with the mainstream society. People stay in their community, you go to the Turkish supermarket, you play in the Turkish football club, you go to the mosque and there is no contact with the outside world. That is not my idea of integration. It’s about living together inclusively. Parallel societies are a threat to cohesion. And then the tip of the iceberg is an escalation of violence as in the favorites. Or as the recently known parallel justice against Chechens by the so-called moral guards.
How do you avoid these parallel partnerships or how do you dissolve them?
