On St. Stephen’s Day, four young men tampered with a gun at Albertinaplatz in central Vienna, sparking a large-scale operation. About two months after the terrorist attack in Vienna, a large contingent of police units rushed to the scene after witnesses saw the four repeat the weapon, police said Sunday. This turned out to be a blank pistol. Adolescents from 14 to 17 years old were shown.

When witnesses informed the police about the incident, the city center district forces and the Josefstadt city police command, as well as police officers from the reserve unit, the emergency unit and the unit WEGA special rushed to the scene. The young Austrians fled before the officers arrived, but were captured during an immediate pursuit. In addition to the pistol, they also carried a knife, which were insured.

The four young people were denounced on suspicion of the dangerous threat and for violating the Covid-19 Emergency Measures Ordinance. All four were prohibited from using weapons.

The Viennese police pointed out in this context that deliberate activation of a police, rescue or fire brigade operation due to a false emergency report is a criminal offense. The costs of the police operation can be prescribed to young people.
