Four versions of the new iPhone 12, “the best camera in the world” and a new design.
Corona thwarted the traditional Apple presentation, the new models were presented a month late. The latest generation of the iPhone was shown under the slogan “Hello, speed”. “The wait is over,” was the message in the virtual event. Tim Cook, CEO of Apple, spoke of data rates of four gigabits per second.
Four variants
With a new angular design reminiscent of the 5 series models, four new versions are launched, from very small to very large. All of them are the first Apple device to support the new 5G cellular standard. The iPhone 12 Mini is the smallest of the bunch, measuring 5.4 inches diagonally, the largest in the group scores with a 6.7-inch diagonal. The presentation focused mainly on the camera, “which is currently supposed to be the best in the world”: a new sensor, 47% larger, will deliver 1.7 micrometers of pixels and will guarantee 87% more performance with little light. A telephoto camera with a 65mm focal length is said to score with a 2.5x optical zoom. In addition to a new raw format called ProRaw, for the first time there is also the option to record and share in Dolby Vision HDR format.
Thanks to nanotechnology, the water-resistant iPhone 12 display glass should be significantly stronger than before. Devices must be charged with a “Magsafe charging base”. The market launch of the new iPhones will take place shortly. The HomePodmini was also introduced. (jw)
