Rather?
Protection measures are decisive. Due to the huge crowds, December 8 and Saturday shopping could be a home game for the virus. So we have to be very careful not to lose the leadership that we are now fighting to win. The images of November 14 cannot be repeated! That’s why we want to massively update our contact tracing, provide more protection for those over 60, and run tests in the field multiple times (see page 6).
What do you think of opening the stores on Sunday in December? The Chamber of Commerce maintains that this would not only help commerce, but also ease the flood of people.
You can think a lot, but: you have to be careful that this happens in consensus with the unions. In any case, things like the inauguration on Sunday are not planned for us, we concentrate on the classic virological questions. If we manage December well, we can get to the first vaccination in a controlled way.
Speaking of which: when will it be ready?
I think earlier than expected. Vaccination is a successful European model. I don’t even want to imagine how we would have obtained the vaccine doses if we had not organized it in conjunction with the EU and with the market power of Europe. It is clear that the main risk groups have priority. In a second step, employees of the health system should be able to get vaccinated. The vaccination strategy and logistics are de facto ready. We want to be ready so that, in theory, we can start vaccinating on January 1.
They are also responsible for pensions. The subsidy that the federal government is making here will increase from nine to more than 14 billion euros between 2018 and 2024. Isn’t proper reform necessary very soon?
With the early start bonus (instead of hacker regulation, see page 8; note), we have taken a first step towards greater equity. My priority in 2021 will be that more justice comes in. It is about possible pension privileges, but above all about fighting poverty in old age. But don’t worry: I’m not a fan of quick fixes, we’ll see it in peace and with the participation of all stakeholders.
It’s your historic birthday, the party is canceled. Sad?
I’m not a party tiger, but I actually wanted to have a party. I’ll catch up with 61 now. Time is my luxury: I look forward to a night off. Last year I had three days off. In this sense, I really want to cook something with my partner on Saturday night, open a bottle of wine and finally have time to talk again.
