Angry Citizen Paralyzed His Community’s Sewer System

The charges had been for serious property damage.

The climate between the citizen and his community has not been the best for some time. He had been annoyed that highway workers had pushed snow onto his property in winter. Sewer cleaning was not to his liking either. Their complaints were not heard by the community. So from February to early June, he dumped trash, mainly disposable diapers, into five driveways around his house. The result: they could no longer absorb the water when it rained heavily. The failures passed, the sewer system was at least temporarily inoperative.

The previously innocent man was in court before the court. But the city council presented him with the invoice: 2,319.70 euros for the extensive cleaning work and the final inspection with a sewer camera to verify that the blockage was removed without problems. He promised to repair the damage in installments. The head of the municipality agreed with this. The judge was then able to offer the accused a diversion with a provisional suspension of the process with a trial period of one year. The man accepted it and the prosecution also refused to appeal. She gave the community representative and the 53-year-old a recommendation to have a conversation on the way home.
