Over the weekend, many amateur athletes were drawn to Austria’s ski areas. As a reader reporter reported, the rush to the Planai in Schladming on Sunday was very great. However, the former was not particularly happy about it, on the contrary: he was almost angry about the situation in view of the currently applicable strict lockdown. “Is the person really that stupid?” Exclaimed the reader and sent the image above.
Another reporter reader, however, was more than satisfied with the process on the site. It also ended up on the Planai ski slopes on Sunday. Although the ski area was very busy, especially in the morning, the rush would have lessened during the day. The amateur skier was positively surprised by the compliance with the Corona measures.
“Everyone wears FFP2 masks and it is strictly controlled.”
As you can see from the photo, it is not easy to maintain the minimum distance between the elevators. “This is implemented very well in elevators.”
Strict controls
The reader reporter also praised the staff: they were “very hard-working and strict.” At the scene, everyone would be offered masks and “you cannot do without an FFP2 mask. Even if you wear a scarf, you are asked to show if you are wearing a mask underneath.” So if you don’t have a mask, you can buy one for two euros when buying a ticket.
Seriously injured skier
Unfortunately, there was also an accident on the slopes of Schladming. On Sunday morning, a group of six men started their day of skiing from the Planai mountain station on slope # 1 down into the valley. Just below the “Schafalm” ski hut, a 23-year-old tall Austrian tried to ski between two skiers, as announced by LPD Styria. In the process, however, he collided with these two skiers and fell.
The 23-year-old, who could not be contacted after the fall, received first aid from the rescue on the track and was taken to the valley by Akia. He was then transported by the C 14 rescue helicopter crew to DKH Schladming and admitted to hospital there.
