Russian Andrey Rublev, 23, was one of the season’s players, got off to a good start and played even better in the later stages. Andrey, who dealt with injuries in 2018 and 2019, was barely in the top 80 when he reached the final in Hamburg last year, paving a recovery road and defeating Roger Federer on his way to the Cincinnati quarterfinals.

Fresh and rested, Rublev opened the current season with two consecutive titles in Doha and Adelaide. and he scored big goals before the coronavirus brought the season to a halt for more than five months.
Upon his return, Andrey was ready to show his true colors, reaching two great quarter-finals and taking three ATP 500 titles to secure his place in the top 10! Andrey lost to Daniil Medvedev in the US Open quarterfinals, returned to Europe and won the third title of the season in Hamburg after beating Stefanos Tsitsipas.
With no time to rest, Rublev traveled to Paris and emerged from a two-set deficit against Sam Querrey in the first round at Roland Garros. After three more victories, the Russian was important in his second consecutive quarter-final, losing to Tsitsipas in straight sets, but did enough to break into the top ten for the first time.
It was time for an indoor season and Andrey was ready to prove his position. He conquered St. Petersburg and Vienna to add 1,000 points to his balance and qualified for the ATP Finals for the first time.
Andrey Rublev finished the season with five titles and 41 wins
Andrey made his London debut against Rafael Nadal, losing in straight sets in one hour and 17 minutes after failing to create break opportunities.
In the second game, Rublev blew a match point in a 6-1, 4-6, 7-6 loss to Stefanos Tsitsipas. He lost a chance for a spot in the semi-finals, but was still looking for 200 points against Dominic Thiem.
The Russian toppled the Austrian 6: 2, 7: 5 for his maiden ATP Finals victory, finished the season with 41 wins and took a well-deserved break before training in the preseason. “I am grateful for everything that has happened to me.
I have won more tournaments this year than in previous years combined. There are many things I can do better and that is the main objective in the off-season. I am motivated to improve the main parts of my game before starting the new season.
Physically, I can still be much faster and improve my defense. In the top 10, I am still one of the worst players in that regard. I can improve my serve, volley, return, cut, backhand and even forehand, “Andrey Rublev said.
