“Very urgent appeal” for implementation
A very central and important support for contact tracing is the Stop Corona app, Anschober responded to the real issue. Actor Harald Krassnitzer wears them too, as a short clip revealed. “As Harald has said now: It doesn’t hurt, but it’s very helpful,” Anschober said. He made a “very urgent appeal” to the population to download the application “today”. It’s so easy to “invest 30 seconds in our protection, our security.”
There are “significant increases” in the warnings reported by the app: “It works, it works,” Anschober said aggressively, evoking “team spirit.” A commercial clip that was later played with ÖFB team boss Franco Foda didn’t work out on the first try.
Foitik: update mid-December
Foitik explained once again how the app works: it registers contacts with other app users via Bluetooth and encrypts them. If there is a “risk contact”, the app will notify itself. So you shouldn’t meet anyone else and contact 1450, for example. The app would reliably warn all contacts “near real-time” as soon as they claim to be infected.
“Two users of this application can probably prevent infection during the course of this pandemic,” Foitik said. The number of downloads of the application is 1.2 million users. By estimates, this can prevent six to eight percent of infections. It’s not enough, it’s the Federal Rescue Commander.
Anschober did not want to give a precise target number of downloads, but praised it: “We have grown significantly in recent weeks.”
By mid-December, the app should be “even more useful than it already is,” Foitik announced. Then it should also work “across borders” and be able to dock with foreign applications. In the future, application keys will be exchanged across Europe via a shared server.
“Act of solidarity”
Businesswoman Madeleine Alizadeh described downloading the app as a “very banal act of solidarity.” Concerns about data protection are unfounded, he said, which is largely up to the opinion of experts.
Watchado’s founder, Ali Mahlodji, spoke of a “vaccination window” one would use: “To be honest, we all buy the latest iPhones, all the time.” The effort to download the app is minimal – anyone looking for excuses shows no solidarity, according to Mahlodji.
