I was well down, but I couldn’t make up time, ”said the 30-year-old from Carinthia. Mayer and Kriechmayer will have a chance for revenge on Sunday (10.30am, live on ORF1) on the descent.
Reichelt, however, was not unhappy with his first run following the torn cruciate ligament he suffered a year ago. “I still have a hard time with this view, so I was too tactful in places. It is a first step towards the comeback, ”said the 40-year-old from Salzburg, summing up his career. “Very special” victory for Caviezel
Caviezel’s victory came as a surprise, as the Swiss only broke his Achilles tendon during training in June. The 32-year-old couldn’t believe he won his first win at the start of the season. “That is, of course, very special. He had good doctors and therapists. Thank you very much, ”said Caviezel.
A long wait came to an end for the Swiss, as he needed 104 World Cup races to top the podium for the first time. “That didn’t bother me. He was close a couple of times. I have always tried to win. Today it worked, it’s a dream, ”said Caviezel happily.
