In addition to the good performances of our slalom aces around the Adelboden winner Marco Schwarz, the recovered Manuel Feller or Michael Matt, the results of a DSV technician in recent weeks also attract attention.
Germany’s Linus Straßer celebrated Salom’s first World Cup victory in the first race in Zagreb in 2021 and confirmed his great form with second place at Adelboden.
After four goal runs this World Cup winter, the 28-year-old German is now 16 points behind Marco Schwarz of Carinthia, second in the Slalom World Cup. The Bavarian, who learned to ski in Kitzbühel, considered retiring a few years ago, as revealed in an interview with “Münchner Merkur” and “TZ”.
Three years ago he was one of the fastest in training, but then he regularly spoiled the races. “I didn’t have much fun doing that, and I didn’t feel like going on like this,” says Straßer. “It also affected my coaches and everyone around me.”
“If I can’t get over the bastard, I’ll let him go”
Together with technology coach Bernd Brunner, he worked on the racing approach. “I knew what my problem was, but I had to jump on my head. After this bad season three years ago, I swore to myself that if I couldn’t change that, I didn’t have this courage and this will, not the bastard.” I can get over it then I’ll let it go I would have had no problem hanging up my skis. “
Straßer explains that it was not about victories, but simply a good ski, which he learned in Kitzbühel as a child. For some time now, the coaches and supervisors have given the Munich resident faith that they have matured significantly and no longer want to emulate their idol and friend Felix Neureuther, as in the past.
In Strasser’s view, this maturing process was inevitable in reaching his current class. “It doesn’t make much sense for people to tell you what to do or how to do it. You have to find your own way,” Straßer emphasizes. This led him to victory against “Spezl” Manuel Feller in Zagreb on Wednesday and to second place behind Schwarz in Adelboden on Sunday.
