The Alpine Skiing Women’s World Cup begins without its biggest star. Mikaela Shiffrin will not be at the start of the new season in Sölden. As the American announced on Friday via Instagram, she dislocated her back in training last week. They had advised him not to appear at the Ötztal. To his disappointment, he was unable to compete at Sölden this year, Shiffrin wrote. “They advised me to skip Sölden so my back can heal and I can compete in races for the rest of the season.” After eight years in a row he was at the opening of the World Cup, it was “really frustrating and fun.” Fortunately, the wound will heal.
“I will be back to the start of the World Cup soon,” said the three-time World Cup winner. The next race to Sölden on the World Cup calendar is the parallel night slalom on November 13 in Lech / Zürs. The following week, two female slaloms are on the program in Levi, Finland.
No more races since January
Shiffrin did not participate in a race after the unexpected death of her father Jeff last January. The double Olympic champion wanted to return to the World Cup in Sölden. Comebacks in March were no longer possible due to the coronavirus pandemic that was spreading at the time, because all races had been canceled at the end of the season. Despite her cancellation for Sölden, she is eager for the World Cup restart, Shiffrin emphasized.
“With all the uncertainty this year, we are only a week away from the start of the World Cup season and that is something we can really look forward to. Well maybe my countdown has been delayed, but the big countdown is on and I can’t wait, ”Shiffrin wrote. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the races in Sölden are organized without a spectator.
