The weekends are divided into one for the technicians and another for the speed runners. The slalom will already take place next Saturday, before the Hahnenkamm slalom follows on Sunday. In the next week, two races will follow on the actual Kitzbühel date. Wengen’s replacement race takes place on Friday and the classic at the Streif on Saturday. The Super-G will follow on Sunday.

CoV infections increased in Wengen
Changes to the racing calendar became necessary after CoV infections rose again in the Bernese Oberland. After much back and forth, the Berne health department ended Lauberhorn’s career. “After a new analysis of the current Covid-19 situation in Wengen, the canton of Bern made the decision to cancel the Lauberhorn races,” said the Swiss Vergand Swiss Ski in a tweet.
On Sunday the races were given the green light. All parties involved, including the International Ski Federation (FIS) working group, made this decision. But the worries started again Monday morning. The teams were asked not to travel to the Bernese Oberland until the Swiss Ski Federation, the FIS and the Organizing Committee made a new decision. This fell against Wengen.
“The decision was necessary”
For men’s career director Markus Waldner, there was no alternative to cancellation at Wengen. “The season is very difficult. But that decision was necessary. Being prepared for flexibility and short-term changes was the motto of the season from the beginning. This means that the journey towards the World Cup in Cortina continues on as safe a path as possible, ”said Waldner, who also thanked Schröcksnadel and Michael Huber, president of the Kitzbühel Ski Club.
The development came as a surprise to Huber. But Kitzbühel is ready for the additional races. “As always in sports, the organizational processes are now adapting to this decision in the short term. I thank everyone involved for their willingness. Now is the time to fully concentrate, because the discipline to comply with the Covid-19 protocol and therefore protect against viruses must be a top priority even with such a change, “Huber said.
