After the fall of Schmidhofer: Siebenhofer needed “all courage” – winter sports – alpine skiing

The conditions in which the ÖSV women started the second descent in Val d’Isere on Saturday were not the best.

The morning before the race, Nicole Schmidhofer received the dreaded confirmation of her cruciate ligament tear, but sent an encouraging message to her teammates. And Schmidhofer also informed Ramona Siebenhofer via Whatsapp after the race that she was sixth as the best lady in ÖSV.

“It wasn’t that easy to beat after Nici’s crash. It’s always a strange feeling when a teammate falls,” says Siebenhofer, who had reflected on 25th place the day before and doubted she could still do it. “I analyzed it carefully. It is as if yesterday I had not realized that I was driving a race. Today has been much better, although there is still room for improvement,” says the Styrian, who “took all the courage and attacked.” He entered the passage, where five runners had crashed the day before, a little hesitantly.

Satisfaction for Puchner, disappointment for Ortlieb

Things were much better on Saturday for Mirjam Puchner, who improved ten places from 22nd to 12th. “It is a satisfaction after the disappointment yesterday. But I had checked it relatively quickly and I did not think much about it. It is going in the right direction, now I want to improve step by step,” explains the native of Salzburg.

Nina Ortlieb, however, was disappointed after finishing 14th after being the best Austrian in fifth place the day before. “There were a lot of hits and I made more mistakes.”

Tamara Tippler is still fighting hard after her serious crown disease, seventh place followed by twentieth place. “It should be better in super-G than downhill, also because it’s shorter.
