Salzburg health officer and LH deputy Christian Stöckl (ÖVP) tested positive for the corona virus. The Red Cross examined 125 people at the Chiemseehof. So far all the results are negative. But two state councilors must be quarantined for ten days, as well as the director of the clinic.

Now the state government has also been affected. Deputy Governor for Health and Finance Christian Stöckl (ÖVP) tested positive for the corona virus on Thursday. He developed symptoms Thursday night and was immediately examined. According to the state of Salzburg, the rapid test was positive. “The member of the government and the employees of the government office were quarantined at home as a precaution, and health authorities continue to trace contacts.”

You do not know where Stöckl might have been infected. The health official was still on appointments in Vienna on Monday.

Stöckl: “Don’t feel so uncomfortable”

Stöckl says over the phone: “The result is not official yet because it was just a quick test in the early hours of the morning. I already did a smear and am waiting for the result of the PCR test. But I have no hope of this results different. Rapid tests are already very accurate. ” Stöckl describes that he was still feeling fit on Wednesday and was running at lunchtime too.

At night his stomach ached, but he did not think about anything because it was not a clear symptom of Covid. “That night I had a 38 degree fever and back pain. And it is very, very rare that I have a fever.” He then requested a rapid test directly from Mustafa’s lab, which came back positive in the morning. “Yes, unfortunately I have it now. I don’t really need it because there is a lot of work waiting, like the next budget negotiations,” Stöckl says by phone.

The infection is, of course, “a catastrophe”. Because he had met many people, he had various appointments, for example, the committee meeting in the state parliament on Wednesday. “However, safety distances are strictly adhered to and masks are used everywhere,” says Stöckl.

He also kept his distance during meetings. He has already contacted himself and warned several contact persons. “The doctors said I had to take it easy. I don’t feel that uncomfortable right now. A little chills from the fever. But right now it’s a mild course,” says Stoeckl.

Test road installed at Chiemseehof

Starting at 1 pm, the State Medical Directorate established a test route with the Red Cross in the Chiemseehof, more precisely in the state parliament meeting room, to immediately assess all members of the government and their employees, the members of the state parliament, as well as the leadership of the state parliament and the persons of the state administration appointed by the health authority. All contact persons have “time slots” to perform the tests. The Stöckl driver has already been tested and is also positive.

Tried boss RK and boss SALK

With Stöckl, a key decision maker has now been hit in the pandemic. The positive result of her test meant that Stöckl’s calendar for the past few days had to be reviewed and key contacts had to be evaluated, such as Rotkreuz CEO Sabine Kornberger-Scheuch. The result was negative. Also, that of the director of the clinic Paul Sungler. However, the authorities classified Sungler as Contact Person I and he is now forced into quarantine.

Governor Wilfried Haslauer underwent a lab test Thursday morning and tested negative for Covid-19. To be safe, all appointments will be canceled or postponed until further notice. The meeting of the supervisory board of Salzburg AG took place on Thursday morning with Haslauer. Thus, Haslauer held the Rupertitags speech scheduled for Thursday night, which was planned with a selected audience at the Kongresshaus, in front of a camera with a live broadcast.

Two state councils in quarantine

For Regional Councilor Josef Schwaiger (ÖVP) and Regional Councilor Andrea Klambauer (Neos) it is now ten days of quarantine. Both have been classified as Category I contacts, Schwaiger, because he sat next to Stöckl at the committee meeting on Wednesday. Klambauer, because he was at the Stöckl budget negotiations on Monday. Regional Councilor Maria Hutter was classified as a Category II contact person and has received requirements from the responsible health authority: monitor health status, significantly reduce social contacts and avoid personal appointments. However, the government is fully capable of acting, it is stressed. Meanwhile, the governor himself took over Stöckl’s agendas and employees would continue to work at the head office. That had already proven effective in the spring with the lockdown.
