Moments after the final whistle, Hasenhttl fell to his knees at St. Mary’s Stadium in Southampton. Television footage showed the 53-year-old man shedding tears of joy and relief following a 1-0 win over leaders Liverpool. Southampton had already taken the lead in the second minute of the game thanks to a remarkable goal from forward Danny Ings. The “Saints” saved the leadership with a lot of will to run, discipline and fighting spirit, well deserved over time.

With the victory, Southampton moved to sixth place. With 29 points from 17 games, Hasenhttl’s team is only four points behind the leader of the table, Liverpool. Manchester United are tied with German coach Jrgen Klopp’s team for second. However, Manchester have played one game less.

Hasenhttl, who moved from Leipzig to Southampton two years ago, was celebrated by fans on social media for his post-match emotions. “These emotions show how much the club and its players mean to our coach,” wrote several Southampton fans on Facebook. The 53-year-old has a long-term contract until the summer of 2024 in Southampton, a port city on the south coast of England.
