Interior Minister Karl Nehammer (ÖVP) makes it clear: “We oppose any form of extremism in all severity, there is no tolerance. In Austria we will never let our right to exercise our religion be destroyed and we will protect the Christian community with all our might ”. Due to current events, all police stations are instructed to monitor public space more intensively, especially at the Favoriten hotspot.

On Thursday there was a police operation due to a gathering of about 20 young people at Reumannplatz. Young people in Turkey chanted slogans with religious motifs and, using fireworks, headed towards Viktor-Adler-Markt. When people saw the uniformed policemen, the crowd dispersed.

Two hours later there was another incident at St. Anton’s Church in District 10. It is said that between 30 and 50 young people rebelled. The pastor who was present at the church immediately notified the police when the youths kicked the church furniture. Even before the alarmed officers arrived, the youths went off in different directions.
