Wallner: “2. Avoid blocking”
The “NEUE AM SONNTAG” asked the governor:
“Currently, most of those infected in Vorarlberg are under 40 years old. Those over 60 are hardly infected. Would it be a way, similar to Sweden’s, to protect the elderly and not overly restrict the young?
Wallner replied:
“The question of how the fall will unfold remains unanswered. We observe the development of hospital capacities on a daily basis, and it is an essential parameter for better infection control. At the moment we are fortunate that relatively few beds are needed. But we are entering a challenging phase and it has not yet been decided whether the number of infections will increase dramatically and thus the older parts of the population will be re-infected, or whether it will remain with a group younger than can tolerate the virus better. It is the key to avoiding a second blockage. “
Kurz wanted to toughen the measures first.
According to his own statement, Chancellor Sebastian Kurz (ÖVP) wanted to react earlier to the renewed increase in corona infections. “It is true that I have wanted to tighten the measures since late summer,” he said in the newspaper “Österreich” (Sunday). However, this was not his only decision, he obviously referred to differences of opinion with the Greens.
Kurz also criticized the lack of implementation of the measures. “I have the impression that some had underestimated the situation and did not implement the measures that would have been necessary in due time,” Kurz said and regarding the federal capital: “I hope that the situation in Vienna does not get out of control.” “Furthermore, the Chancellor was convinced that the situation” can “return to normal in the summer of 2021.
WHO: Finding Herbal Remedies in Africa
The World Health Organization (WHO) supports the search for herbal remedies for Covid-19 in Africa. Experts from the WHO and two other organizations have “approved a protocol for phase 3 clinical trials of a herbal medicine for Covid-19,” the WHO said Saturday in Brazzaville, its regional headquarters in Africa.
WHO’s partners are the African Center for Disease Control and Prevention and the Commission for Social Affairs of the African Union. “Phase 3 clinical trials are essential to fully evaluate the safety and efficacy of a new medical product,” the statement said. “If a traditional medicine product proves to be safe, effective and of guaranteed quality, the WHO will recommend rapid and large-scale local manufacture.”
At the end of April, the Malagasy government introduced a mugwort-based herbal drink, which is said to have a preventive and curative effect against the new corona virus. However, there are considerable doubts about the efficacy of the drug called “Covid Organics”, which is being promoted by the president of Madagascar, Andry Rajoelina. It has not yet been investigated in any scientific study.
