According to a newspaper report, the US aircraft manufacturer Boeing faces more sanctions from the FAA. It is considering new penalties for security deficiencies, the “Wall Street Journal” wrote on Tuesday, citing an anonymous whistleblower. However, the crisis pilot 737 Max should be approved again by the supervisory authority in a few days.
Boeing is also independent of the debacle surrounding the 737 Max, which has been banned from flying since March 2019 due to two accidents. For example, the FAA is investigating possible production defects in the long-haul 787 “Dreamliner” aircraft, which could have consequences. Additionally, Boeing is said to have concealed explosive inside information from investigators in the processing of the 737 Max accidents.
Nonetheless, the FAA plans to lift the takeoff ban on the problematic plane on Wednesday of next week, according to constant US media reports. Neither Boeing nor the authorities wanted to confirm it. However, supervisory authorities completed the hot phase of the re-registration process months ago and submitted drafts of new safety guidelines for the 737 Max, so the timing would not be particularly surprising.
The Boeing crisis plane was withdrawn from worldwide circulation after crashes with 346 deaths more than a year and a half ago. The main cause of accidents is a faulty control program. Boeing had wanted to fix the problems quickly, instead other deficiencies appeared. Meanwhile, the plane’s security is said to have been restored. Europe’s aviation authority EASA had already signaled its approval of recertification in October.
