Federal Chancellor Sebastian Kurz spoke on Holy Saturday by video. With a surprisingly optimistic Corona outlook.
Sebastian Kurz currently avoids the big appearances and lengthy questions from journalists. But the Federal Chancellor (ÖVP) spoke on Facebook through a video. It was a message of confidence to the public about the situation of the crown, with some surprisingly optimistic announcements. “Give me maybe five minutes to check.”
First things first, according to Kurz: “In the next 100 days” there will be the opportunity to “offer at least the first vaccination to anyone who wants to get vaccinated.” According to surveys, five million people in Austria want to get vaccinated. The government is also working with these forecasts. So far, Kurz said that by the end of June everyone who wanted to get vaccinated could get their first dose. Now it deviates very slightly from him, it would be July 10. In Vienna, the deadline has already been postponed: because there are not enough vaccines, the plan cannot be met.
Kurz puts his hopes on the Russian vaccine (not yet approved): “If we use Sputnik, we can even speed it up.”
“The time until then will be demanding.” The goal is to prevent intensive care medicine from being overloaded. In Vienna, Burgenland and Lower Austria, therefore, “very drastic measures are needed. In the rest of Austria, the situation is much better today ”. The figures: According to the Ages board, the occupancy rate was highest on Saturday afternoon in Vienna and Lower Austria (59.58 percent). This was followed by Burgenland (57), Styria (54), Upper Austria (52) and Tirol (49). The remaining countries are (well) below 40 percent. The numbers should be treated with caution: the occupancy rate only refers to beds that are available to Covid patients or could be free within seven days. After a year of pandemic, intensive care unit staff generally complain of their overload.
In the video, Kurz is optimistic: “We hope to reach a tipping point by vaccinating older people as early as May.” Then one could “finally take all the initial steps that we all so urgently await.” That was probably the most surprising statement: Until now, experts have been discussing the question of whether a stricter lockdown should not be applied across the country.
Until there are new openings in sports, culture, gastronomy and tourism, you have to stick to the measures. “As always in life, the most important thing is the inner attitude.” Corona will pass, you have to be aware of that.
Ankle took roll.Health Minister Rudolf Anschober (Greens) spoke on Ö1: It is “important that a perspective is visible”. He definitely sees “the possibility of May openings.” Postscript: “If the trend reversal is achieved in the next ten days and the number too high” of new infections falls. But now the population must jointly support the protection measures. Also from Anschober there was an appeal: “Also in the West, the Easter rest period must be done voluntarily.” ib
