But FP Councilman Markus Lassenberger won yesterday’s election for deputy mayor. The SP candidate, Elisabeth Mayr, who was the only representative of the Green coalition, SPÖ, ÖVP and List for Innsbruck, was imposed with 18 votes. For Lassenberger, the leaders of ÖVP and For Innsbruck should have voted, the Greens had announced that they would vote for Mayr.
The election of the FP politician caused “great irritation”, as Willi put it, but he does not consider that new elections are necessary. “I don’t understand how we can be politically responsible for that,” he said in the escapist’s direction, but now he wants to “restore stability.”
The Tyrolean SP leader, Georg Dornauer, harshly criticized the events and saw them as “further proof of the weak leadership” of Mayor Willi. The fact that the city council had voted in favor of a FP candidate was “a sign of poverty” for the state capital. The SPÖ “will now have to look closely” to see if they can still find common ground, threatened to end the coalition.
