Ralph Hasenhüttl’s next big success in the Premier League: After beating the reigning English champions 1-0, Styrian and Southampton scored at least one point against all current Premier League teams.

Had against all current English Premier League teams except Liverpool Ralph Hasenhüttl got at least one point with Southampton. Now the last white spot on Hasenhüttl’s Premier League map is gone. The Saints defeat the defending champions 1-0 in their own stadium.

Danny Ings led Southampton to the lead in the second minute. That made it that much easier for the outsider – Southampton repeatedly dangerously counterattacked from a compact defense. Liverpool’s preparation game was permanently disrupted by constant pressure. The wide balls of the defense were unable to handle Liverpool’s three attackers against Southampton’s physically superior defensive players.
Thus it happened that Liverpool had almost 75 per cent of possession, but only in the 75th minute did they make the first shot at Southampton’s goal. After four games without a win and three straight games without a goal, Hasenhüttl can look forward to another victory with his team. Liverpool haven’t won three times in a row and haven’t scored twice. Klopp and his team are still at the top of the table in the Premier League, but the advantage over the competition has melted away. Manchester United are already tied with one game less. Southampton is sixth, four points behind.
