Southampton FC celebrated a 1-0 home victory in the Premier League against Liverpool on Monday night. Danny Ings put the “Saints” in the lead with a wonderful balloon in the second minute. Coach Ralph Hasenhüttl’s team climbed to sixth place in the table.
The Reds remain at the top of the table despite their third straight game without a win, but tied pursuers Manchester United have played one game less.
On January 17 there will be a duel between the old rivals at Anfield Road. Before that, United has a chance to climb to the top in the game at Burnley FC (Jan 12).
Ings winning goal after two minutes
Former Liverpool player Danny Ings edged out Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker after less than two minutes with a lift in the far corner. Liverpool FC, in which former Bayern star Thiago was in the starting eleven for the first time since mid-October after recovering from a knee injury, only fired his first shot at Fraser Forster’s goal in the 75th minute via Sadio Mane.
Southampton with former Leipzig manager Ralph Hasenhüttl is just four points behind Liverpool after prestigious success as sixth place.
