Neymar rejects the accusation of the New Year’s Eve party with 500 guests.
Celebrate with family and friends, everyone has been tested for the corona virus and there is a distance, says the 28-year-old in a video on Instagram. 500 guests were not invited, as reported before New Year’s Eve.
In a video just before the turn of the year, Neymar showed a long table where only every second place is covered. “We deserve to celebrate our lives,” wrote the Paris Saint-Germain star.
Brazilian media had already reported a Neymar party with professional entertainment at a beach villa in the Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro, which began several days before New Year’s Eve.
Brazil hit hard by virus
The reports caused outrage: the well-known Brazilian soccer journalist Juca Kfouri accused Neymar of taunting the families of the more than 190,000 crown deaths in the South American country.
A spokeswoman for Neymars dismissed the reports: “Neymar will not party this year, we have a full-blown pandemic and he is dating his friends and family,” explains Day Crespo.
Brazil has the third highest number of coronavirus infections and the second highest number of deaths related to Covid-19 disease worldwide. Due to the Corona crisis, this year the traditional New Year’s Eve celebrations on Copacabana beach in Rio were canceled.
Right-wing President Jair Bolsonaro has repeatedly downplayed the severity of the pandemic. Neymar is one of his most prominent followers.
