Due to the good performance at the European Artistic Gymnastics Championships, the Austrian Gymnastics Association decided to award the award again this year, despite the low number of events. But without the usual mix of votes from fans, experts, VIPs and the media, just for the 24-person ÖFT Presidium. “I am happy to have been re-elected. With the balance beam reaching the final of the European Championship in Mersin, I was able to celebrate a sporting highlight last year, ”says Elisa Hämmerle, nonetheless satisfied. She was elected as incumbent with only one vote against. “This success gives me an additional boost in motivation to prepare for Tokyo,” said the 25-year-old, who is already qualified for the Olympics.
In the men’s category, however, Vinzenz Höck can claim for the fourth time the title of “Gymnast of the year”, which he also won last year and was re-elected with a silver medal at the European Championship.
