The quarterfinals of the Darts World Cup in London brought a tangible surprise in the quarterfinals. Because world number one Michael van Gerwen suffered the clearest world defeat of his career and was shockingly eliminated by Dave Chisnall.

In addition to Chisnall, who was seeded number eight, Gary Anderson (SCO / 13), Stephen Bunting (ENG / 26) and Gerwyn Price (WAL / 3) also reached the semi-finals.

“Mighty Mike”, as the Dutchman Van Gerwen is also called, lost 5-0 to England’s Chisnall on Friday night and was left with nothing in the pursuit of his fourth World Cup title, like last year. Van Gerwen was behind from the start and was clearly dominated by “Chizzy”, who is in the semi-finals for the first time.

Gurney bezwingt price

Previously, Gerwyn Price from Wales had reached the semi-finals. The former professional rugby player with the nickname “The Iceman” won by just 5: 4 against Irishman Daryl Gurney. After winning the crime thriller, Price will now face England’s Stephen Bunting in Saturday’s semi-finals, who defeated Poland’s Krzysztof Ratajski 5-3 in the afternoon. Price may become world number one for the first time after the World Cup, but he must also win his first World Cup title.

Scottish veteran Gary Anderson is also in the semi-finals. The 2015 and 2016 world champion, who had eliminated Mensur Suljovic from the tournament in the third round, finished off Dutchman Dirk van Duijvenbode 5-1. Anderson, who is struggling with knee problems and came out of a quarantine crown for the World Cup, actually entered the tournament as an outsider. Anderson plays Chisnall on Saturday.

The new world champion will be determined on Sunday night in front of the empty stands at Alexandra Palace due to the crown.
