In the Golden Hall of the Musikverein, the traditional New Year’s Concert of the Vienna Philharmonic heralds the virgin year 2021 on Friday starting at 11.15 a.m. However, given the situation of Corona under Riccardo Muti, the concert will by no means become traditional. This year, for the first time, the great classical event must take place completely without a live audience. At least programmatically, one relies on familiar sounds.

The 79-year-old Muti, who will be on the podium at the New Year’s Concert for the sixth time, will lead a program in which the works of the Strauss dynasty will once again dominate. This waltz bliss after a tough year 2020 will be broadcast around the world by the ORF for the 63rd time: at 11.15 am ORF 2 will start broadcasting from Vienna, which will be broadcast again in some 90 countries. Additionally, Ö1 will broadcast the concert live on the radio, along with dozens of other radio stations around the world.
