Could this start as early as 2021?
Necessarily. Now would be the right time for it. But the future means a decision. Here we return to bravery. Austria cannot go wrong with that. We just have to do the right thing.
Where are we not okay?
There are two things that concern me. First: We are investing billions without future images in the restoration of normality that we do not know how it will be. Second, I am concerned about the state of education. Education is still about memorizing information. Corona has shown a significant structural deficit.
That would be …?
The biggest problem is not the lack of laptops, but the complete lack of self-organized learning. Neither teachers nor students can organize or learn the content themselves. That would be important right now. Furthermore, ecology and economics subjects must now be networked in schools. And not in the construction of the image of the old enemy, but as creative added value for the future. I’ll put it very simply: independent thinking and learning would have to be introduced as a separate subject today.
But Austria with its federalism and private interests: Is there any reform possible?
In fact, these structures often get in the way of each other. We are a hedging company. Nobody does anything to prevent someone else from putting on the lid. Lack of courage and desire to progress. That has to do with the small size of the country. That is why it is important that we become more European. So don’t think about the reforms from the Viennese perspective, but from the European one.
