The Russian prison authorities had previously given the opposition party an ultimatum to fulfill the conditions of a previous suspended sentence and to inform the Russian authorities. Otherwise, there is a risk of imprisonment.
Navalny is supposed to come to Russia
According to Nawalny’s spokeswoman, Kira Jarmysch, the opposition member should have appeared in person in Moscow on Tuesday morning. “And once again: everyone knows that Navalny is in rehabilitation in Germany,” Jarmysch wrote on the short message service Twitter. Therefore, it is not possible to fly back to Moscow. The case concerns a 2014 conviction.
The authority referred to an article in the journal “The Lancet” by Nawalnys doctors at the Berlin Charité University Clinic. As a result, the 44-year-old was released from the clinic on September 20 and later declared fully recovered, authorities said. Regarding this article, the Kremlin announced last week that it would not read any medical journals.
Fraud investigation
Navalny mocked on Twitter that the reference to the article in “The Lancet” amounted to an acknowledgment by the government that he had been poisoned. Moscow asked Germany to provide evidence of poisoning. Only then should investigations be initiated.
In the evening, Russia’s Investigative Committee announced that it was investigating Navalny for fraud. Along with others, he is said to have used donations equal to 3.9 million euros to his anti-corruption fund for “personal purposes” such as buying property and financing holidays. Navalny wrote: “Putin seems to be hysterical.” His fund can only function with the help of donations, he said.
The Kremlin critic blames a “killing squad” of the FSB’s internal secret service operating under the orders of Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin for the poisonous attack with a chemical warfare agent by the Novichok group. Russia denies being involved in the case. A week ago, Navalny posted a recording of a phone call with an alleged agent. In it, the man says that the poison was placed in Navalny’s underwear.
