Karl Geiger won the inaugural competition of the Four Hills Tournament in his hometown of Oberstdorf and thus the hope of a German’s first overall victory since Sven Hannawald (2001/02) nurtured. Violinist who was last infected with Corona advanced 2.8 points on Tuesday Kamil stoch who wrote his own fairy tale as a Pole: Just hours earlier, the Polish team had received clearance after the Corona alarm and lockdown the day before.
With the two Norwegians Marius lindvik and Halvor Egner Granerud as well as german Markus Eisenbichler other co-favorites from the 69th edition landed in places three through five. The ÖSV jumpers fell back on the decision collectively, Stefan kraft in sixth place was once again the best Austrian. Before the New Year’s competition in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Kraft is 17.5 points behind Geiger.

One third of half time Philipp aschenwald finished in eighth place, Jan Hörl and Daniel Huber in the eleventh and thirteenth places. Thomas lackner jumped to the points on the tour debut as 24th. Markus Schiffner like 42 and Michael Hayboeck The 48th of the first round had missed the final of the top 30. Markus Eisenbichler He slid as 27 and then let the best distance of the day follow with a brilliant 142m set, making him just 1.5m short of the hill record of Sigurd pettersen he stayed.
The Austrians were unable to maintain their promising positions after the first round. In front of the last ten jumpers, which also included the trio Hörl, Kraft and Aschenwald, the jury shortened the entry by two hatches when there was a tailwind. Hörl (123.5m) lost four, Aschenwald (127) five and Kraft (125) one position.

Kraft’s joy for sixth place was great after a crown and forced setback. “Sixth, brilliant – a dreamy start,” cheered the man from Salzburg. The World Cup champion also spoke of unfair conditions, he was upset by the jury’s decision and the fact that there was no short wait when there was a tailwind. “Plus eight (wind offset, note) and the ‘Eisei’ has 0 points from two more hatches, that’s a bit difficult. But ski jumping is an outdoor sport, I’m super happy with the jumps.”
Aschenwald didn’t really regret the missed opportunity on the podium. “There was definitely more in the second round, but I’m happy to be in the top ten again,” said the Tyrolean, who had only landed in this area this season (eighth at Wisla).
Hayböck was greatly disappointed. After one with 112 meters and 48th place, a higher position in the general classification is out of reach for Upper Austria. Fourth place in the World Ski Flying Championships was initially unexplained. “It was a strange jump where I immediately noticed that something was wrong.” Huber was not entirely satisfied either. “It’s not entirely consistent. You need bombs to jump there (to the front).”
After an overnight U-turn, the Poles around Stoch were there too. The team went on Monday after a positive corona test of Klemens muranka he was excluded from the first competition, but was allowed to come out of quarantine and jump after two more sets of negative tests. Second, Stoch seized the opportunity. “It was a fantastic day. I can only thank our coaches – they fought for us until the end,” said the two-time winner of the tour (2016/17, 2017/18).

Therefore, the competition was initially organized with the 62 registered participants, the planned co-system, which is planned for the tour with 50 qualified participants, was discarded. A dilemma looms in the upcoming seasons in Garmisch-Partenkirchen (January 1), Innsbruck (3rd) and Bischofshofen (6th), but if infected athletes are discovered in more tests in the series, teams could follow the ‘path Polish ‘with other Choose tests. Actually, this is not foreseen in the hygiene concept.
Geiger, who had also just returned from Corona’s quarantine, didn’t care about his home win – he applauded “two big” jumps in a “really brutal” competition. “I don’t know what to say. If there were still spectators there, it would be perfect,” said the 27-year-old at the stadium, which is only busy with cardboard cutouts.
